Carolyn became interested in photography in the early 1980s, when she received a camera as a Christmas present. Over the years, she took pictures as a hobby, but her interest in photography was reawakened in summer 2004 when she and several co-workers, also photographers, formed a photography club. Shooting with a reconditioned Nikon N65 SLR film camera and a Canon A-75 digital camera, Carolyn extensively photographs Washington, DC, cityscapes and surrounding landscapes. Carolyn is a native Washingtonian.
At the core of my work is the belief that there is beauty everywhere, and that as a photographer, it is my obligation, as equally as my joy, to preserve that beauty when it reveals itself to me. As a native Washingtonian, I never tire of looking at the powerful monuments and structures that pervade the city of Washington, D.C. But such images are conspicuously absent from my work. I prefer, instead, to seek out and to capture, in still frames, the quiet beauty that exists in every quadrant, in every neighborhood, and on every street that is my home: DC.
