
The sculptural plastic faces of mass-produced toys present a familiar and easy-to-read surface. By enlarging them and removing their banal colors and contexts, I have made them easier for adults to “see”.
These photographs tease out my imagination, which seems fundamentally a roiling ocean of religious iconography, fairy tales and popular culture. Finally, they make me laugh, and I’ll do anything for a moment of sweet and rueful joy. Even play with Pez.
