Leona Grauel Tranchitella has been taking photographs since childhood. She studied fine art and photography at Maryland Institute, College of Art in Baltimore. While at the Institute, she became interested in exploring gender roles in the rock music scene, which continually influence her work.
"The majority of my work involves models. I use make-up and wardrobe to somewhat mask a person’s identity, creating a new persona. This process often allows me to record moments of genuine self-awareness as the model settles into the roles I have created. I am always fascinated by this transformation."
Leona also enjoys photographing rock shows and creating album covers, portraits and promotional art for local bands.
